Plant and Charlo, who were both in Sin City for Errol Spence and Terence Crawford‘s undisputed welterweight showdown at the end of July, crossed paths at the pre-fight weigh-in and soon found themselves embroiled in a fiery dispute backstage.
Footage then emerged of their altercation turning violent, with Plant – who reigned as IBF super-middleweight champion from 2019-2021 – slapping Charlo in the face as tempers flared.
And just under two weeks since it occurred, Plant has opened up on the skirmish and pointed the finger at Charlo, accusing his rival of grabbing his beard and branding him a ‘b***h ass white boy’.
Speaking on Instagram Live, the 31-year-old said: ‘A man’s got a right to defend himself. Grown man touches another grown man in his face, pulling on his beard real hard, and I’ve got the decency to tell you not to do that again, I’m gonna spazz on you right there.

‘I’ve got the decency to tell you not to do that again and the only thing you can reply with is I’m a b***h ass white boy.
‘”Look at him y’all getting shook, just like a b***h ass white boy would. Look at him y’all, just like a white boy would. Acting like a b***h.”
‘And then you immediately grab my face again even harder after I just asked you not to do that no more. I’ve got my wife standing right behind me and I’m in a room full of my peers. I mean… what do you do?
Plant has now opened up on the incident on Instagram Live
‘You know, you making it real hard on a guy. You’re really putting his back on a wall when you start doing all that s**t in front of my wife and everybody in the room. I asked you to quit f*****g with me.’
Plant then added more detail on X, formerly known as Twitter, by claiming Charlo was determined to press charges after the incident.
He wrote: ‘And then he wanted to press charges. Swear on my life I can’t make this s**t up’.
Charlo, a former champion at light-middleweight who has held the WBC middleweight crown since 2019, is yet to comment on the altercation.
The Louisiana fighter has been out of the ring for over two years now, with his last contest a points win over Juan Macias Montiel back in July 2021.
To the dismay of the boxing world, his twin brother Jermell was announced as Canelo Alvarez’s next opponent despite reports claiming the Mexican was in line to face him.
Plant, meanwhile, is still reeling from two defeats in his last three contests; having come unstuck against David Benavidez via unanimous decision back in March after losing his IBF super-middleweight title to Canelo back in 2021.
