Claressa Shields uploads BRUTAL footage of her beating up male sparring partners as she continues to push for intergender showdown with former men’s welterweight world champion Keith Thurman
- Claressa Shields believes she can ‘outbox’ Keith Thurman and wants to prove it
- Shields has called Thurman out to an intergender boxing match at 160lb
- Thurman is reluctant but says he would consider doing it for a charitable cause
Shields, who is the reigning undisputed middleweight champion in the women’s division, called out Thurman last week and is confident she can ‘outbox him’.
‘The GWOAT’ even stated she is bigger and taller than the Florida fighter and appears to be dead serious about stepping into the ring with him.
However, Thurman is far more reluctant, claiming he would ‘only use his jab’ and insist upon Shields donning headgear and him wearing ‘bigger gloves’.
Thurman also affirmed he isn’t keen on ‘punching a girl in the face’ but would consider doing it for charity.
Claressa Shields is the pound-for-pound queen of women’s boxing and the reigning undisputed middleweight champion
Keith Thurman is a former WBA (super) and WBC welterweight champion but has been inactive since losing to Manny Pacquiao in 2019
Speaking to Sporting News, he said: ‘Look, I can fight for any charity event, we can raise money and let you try to showcase your skills and talent.
‘I’d probably use my jab only. But at the end of the day, I don’t know why you wanna gun after me, I’ve heard you say my name so many times in the past, but this is not what boxing is to me.
‘If the fans were actually interested in something like this, it’s not really in my heart, but for the people and for charity I would make something like that happen.
‘I would wear bigger gloves, I would let her wear smaller gloves. I would let her wear headgear too. I don’t really wanna punch a girl in the face.’
In response to Thurman’s words, Shields tweeted: ‘Aww, Keith you are hilarious. Yes, you are a man and champion, but you are not good enough to only use one hand on me.
‘Now for charity or raising money for a foundation, we can definitely do it. I’ll come in at 160 too, I’m actually bigger than you and taller.’
She then concluded the bizarre back and forth by uploading a video of her exchanging leather with her male sparring partners, with the caption: ‘I respect that my sparring partners help me prepare for my world title fights, but all of them will agree – ain’t no taking it easy.’
