The Seattle Kraken upset the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Colorado Avalanche, in their first ever playoff series as a franchise.
Now, they advance to the second round to take on the Dallas Stars with a berth in the Western Conference Final on the line.
The Stars took down the Minnesota Wild in the opening round, only need six games to do so.
Let’s dive into the betting odds for Game 1 of this Western Conference second round playoff series.
Kraken vs. Stars odds, puck line, and total
Kraken vs. Stars prediction and pick
The Seattle kraken pulled off the first round upset largely due to fantastic play from their goaltender, Philipp Grubauer.
He racked up a .926 save percentage in the first round and if he keeps that play up the Kraken are live underdogs once again, but I don’t think he will. Instead of looking at the first round results, I’m more apt to trust the season long numbers where Grubauer had a 2.85 goals against average and an .895 save percentage.
The Stars also have a significant special teams advantage in this series and in tonight’s Game 1. They had the fifth best powerplay and third best penalty kill in the regular season. They followed that up by scoring nine powerplay goals against the Wild in the opening round.
Now, they get to face a Kraken team that ranked 21st in both powerplay and penalty kill in the regular season.
Give me the Stars to get off to a hot start in Dallas tonight.
