The home team has won every game of the Eastern Conference second round series between the Carolina Hurricanes.
The ‘Canes won Game 1 and Game 2 in convincing fashion, but then the Devils stormed back in Game 3, winning in front of their home crowd by a final score of 8-4.
So, how do we handle Game 4 after a rollercoaster start to the series?
Let’s dive into the odds for the pivotal Game 4 and then I’ll give you my best bet.
Hurricanes vs. Devils odds, puck line, and total
Hurricanes vs. Devils prediction and pick
With how the first three games have fared, I’m surprised to see the total staying at 5.5 with the OVER available at plus-money.
Sure, the final score in each game is one thing, but the analytics also back this being a higher scoring series than oddsmakers have expected.
For example, when you look at expected goals per 60 minutes in this series, the Hurricanes are sitting at 3.82 and the Devils are at 3.01, much higher than you’d expect for a matchup between two teams where the total is set at only 5.5.
It’s also worth noting that both goaltenders have been terrible so far in the series. The Hurricanes’ goalies have a save percentage of only 87.65%, while the Devils goals have a save percentage of 82.95%.
With every game being a blowout for one team or the other, I’m going to stay away from a side and instead bet on the total for Tuesday night’s game.
