Kraken vs. Stars series odds and prediction (Why you should back the Stars)

The Seattle Kraken not only made the playoffs in their second ever season as a franchise, but they knocked off the defending Stanley Cup champions as well. They forced the Avalanche to Game 7 and left Colorado victorious with a 2-1 Game 7 win.

Now, the Kraken will take on the Dallas Stars with a berth in the Western Conference Final on the line.

As a result of the first round upset by the Kraken, the Stars will have home ice advantage in the upcoming series.

Let’s take a look at the odds for the series and then I’ll break down my prediction.

The Seattle Kraken pulled off the first round upset, but don’t that convince you that they’re going to go on a Stanley Cup run. There are some red flags surrounding them this series that the Stars should be able to take advantage of.

For example, the Stars have a significant special teams advantage. They had the 5th best powerplay in the regular season, including scoring nine powerplay goals in the first round against the Wild. They also had the third best penalty kill in the regular season, allowing a goal on only 16.53% of opponent’s powerplays.

Meanwhile, the Kraken ranked 21st in both powerplay and penalty kill.

The Kraken’s goaltending could be a huge issue for them as well.

Sure, Philipp Grubauer stood on his head in the opening round and had a .926 save percentage, but his season-long numbers aren’t promising in terms of him keeping this level of play up. In the regular season, he had a goals against average of 2.85 and a save percentage of .895.

Unless he once again plays at an A+ level throughout the series, the Stars are going to be able to fill up the net with goals.
