The highly-anticipated bout between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia is set to take place this year, according to reports.

According to Michael Benson of talkSPORT, the pair have agreed to meet at a 136lbs catchweight on April 15 in Las Vegas in what will no doubt be one of the biggest pay-per-view events of the year.

A meeting between the two undefeated lightweight stand-outs has been on the cards for some time, with both men electing to take fights in the interim to prepare them for the superfight.

Davis returned to the ring on Saturday night in preparation for the April showdown by taking on undefeated Dominican Olympian Hector Garcia.

Entering the bout amidst controversies surrounding his personal life, Davis endured a slow start against the tough but unheralded Garcia before finding his range as the fight wore on and forcing his opponent to retire on his stool after the eighth round.

Ryan Garcia was expected to also return this month ahead of his clash with ‘Tank’ and was slated to face two-time world title challenger Mercito Gesta.

However, the  24-year-old would ultimately elect not to take a fight before facing Davis in April, taking to Twitter last month to explain his decision.

‘Been thinking about it during the time they were figuring out this fight and I feel the fans and everyone who supports boxing have seen these tune ups already it’s time that we give the fans what they want. Also he requested the tune up not me so let him handle business. LETS GO’

Garcia last fought in July, defeating Javier Fortuna by way of sixth-round knockout in California after returning from a more than year long hiatus with a win over Emmanuel Tagoe in April.
