Ebanie Bridges was so confident that she would beat arch rival Shannon O’Connell that she backed herself to get the job done with one hand, it has been revealed.

The Blonde Bomber posted an image of her swollen right hand detailing that she suffered a broken hand before their bout for the IBF bantamweight title in Leeds last Saturday.

Bridges, 35, defeated her fellow Australian with a late knockout to defend her world championship, and said that she will be out for a lengthy spell as she recovers from surgery for the injury.

‘Booked in for surgery on my hand this Friday. A lot of my camp was done with one hand. A lot of my sparring only using my left hand. But there was no way I was pulling out of that fight cos I knew I could batter her with 1 hand if needed & I wanted to, but now time to sort this.

‘It’s a pretty intense surgery, they take bone from my hip and fuse my joints together. Bit of a lengthy recovery.. but I am no stranger to injuries. Lol’.

The bad blood between the pair began before the bout, with O’Connell branding her rival a ‘skanky stripper’ due to her habit of wearing lingerie at her pre-fight weigh-ins.

The 39-year-old also tried to intimidate Bridges when they met face-to-face in Leeds last Thursday, telling her, ‘You’re f**ked, b***h’ – only to have her opponent laugh in her face.

O’Connell also insulted Bridges over her weight before the bout, describing her as a ‘fat c***’ before they stood on the scales.

Bridges was quick to bring up the insults when she was interviewed after the grudge match was settled.

‘Not bad for a skanky stripper I must say, not bad for a skanky stripper,’ she said in her post-fight speech.

‘I’m not usually disrespectful to my opponent but she was so disrespectful to me the whole time. So I can’t really give her that much respect – she can hit but.

‘She can bang. She came, she was hungry, she was fierce. But I was better, and that’s why I’m the champion.

‘I hope the world, I hope Australia is proud of me now. We know who the queen of Australian boxing is. I knew it was going to be the hardest fight of my career, and it was.’
