JEFF POWELL: Tyson Fury and Derek Chisora will defy tradition and 'get on with it' from the start

JEFF POWELL: Old friends Tyson Fury and Derek Chisora will ‘get on with it’ from the get go rather than await the first bell from their corners… as ‘War’ Chisora claims the fans deserve ‘fireworks from the start’ for coming out on a cold night

  • Tyson Fury fury vowed to knock Derek Chisora’s ‘block off’ on Saturday night
  • The Gypsy King, 34, promised to meet his opponent in the middle of the ring
  • Fury takes on ‘War’ Chisora at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night
  • The pair will meet for the third time, with Fury winning both the previous bouts
  • WBC heavyweight champion Fury promised to rain ‘big punches on him’
  • Chisora confessed that though the pair are old friends they are ‘coming for war’

Tyson Fury and Derek Chisora have made a pact to start punching as soon as they touch gloves before Saturday’s world heavyweight title fight.

They intend defying the time-honoured tradition of returning to their corners to await the first bell, in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The two old boxing friends made that agreement as they exchanged banter during their media training session at the BT studios in East London.

Derek Chisora and Tyson Fury have promised to fight toe-to-toe in the ring on Saturday

Fury has won each of his two previous meetings with Chisora, coming back in 2011 and 2014

Chisora explained: ‘We go back a long way but we are both coming for war. So why wait?

‘We are men who love to fight so we hope the referee just lets us get on with it as soon as he asks us to touch ’em up.

‘One reason is to be the first ever to do something different like this. It will give the 60-70,000 people in the Stadium fireworks from the start. They deserve that for coming out on a cold night.’

The Gypsy King has made headlines already this week in the run-up to the all-English fight

Fury believes this explosion of intent will dispel the theory that this will be two old friends going through the motions: ‘From that first second I will be raining big punches on him from so many angles that he won’t know where they’re coming from.

‘But he will still be going to war. He’s a real fighting man’

Fury went on to ridicule criticism of his choice of giving this interim opportunity – before a March fight with Olexsandr Usyk for the undisputed world championship – to an opponent he has defeated twice already.

Chisora had interrupted an interview for Fury before the pair made their high-stakes pact

He said: ‘As people who’ve never fought for a world title or been punched in the face by a heavyweight, they’re talking rubbish.

‘This will be a great fight however long it lasts. But I will knock his block off.’

Fury warmed up for the task doing a form of pad-punching for 12 rounds – Saturday’s scheduled championship distance – followed by three of athletic movement.

‘That’s me,’ he roared to his audience: ‘An old fashioned 15-round fighter.’

Fury v Chisora will be televised live this Saturday night on BT Sport Box Office.
