Texas reveals Quinn Ewers’ number ahead of Longhorns spring game

Texas football fans now know what number Quinn Ewers will be rocking in burnt orange.

With the Longhorns’ spring game happening on Saturday night, Texas football fans are eagerly waiting to see what Quinn Ewers can do running Steve Sarkisian’s offense.

The former five-star recruit transferred back to his native Texas after spending one semester at Ohio State. Ewers reclassified to 2021 so that he could capitalize on all things NIL, something that was forbidden for high schoolers in Texas. Now back in his home state, Ewers hopes to be the one to do something no signal-caller has been able to do since Colt McCoy: Bring Texas football back!

Ewers will be rocking the No. 3 jersey for as long as he plays his college football in Austin.

Texas football: Quinn Ewers will wear the No. 3 jersey for the Longhorns

With this only being Sarkisian’s second season in Austin, the starting quarterback job may very well be up for grabs. Hudson Card is seen as the presumptive starter entering fall camp, as Casey Thompson opted to transfer to Nebraska after last season. Card may be immensely talented, but his on-field inconsistencies could allow an opportunity for Ewers to usurp him on the depth chart.

As far as what the expectations are for Texas, realistic or not, the Longhorns need to at the very least get back to bowl eligibility. The Longhorns moved off former head coach Tom Herman because he was not winning at as prolific of a clip as the fan base would have liked. In year one on the job, Sarkisian guided the Longhorns to a dismal 4-8 record, including an awful loss to Kansas.

If everything goes according to plan, Texas could push towards that second tier of Big 12 teams. The Longhorns may be a year or so away from challenging the likes of Baylor, Oklahoma or Oklahoma State for a conference title, but that is what Ewers and Sarkisian came to Texas to do: To bring Texas football back, hopefully in time before the Longhorns join the ranks of the SEC.

If Ewers lives up to the hype, No. 3 burnt orange jerseys will be everywhere throughout Austin.
